Session Summary

Another surge from the Witch's Maw nearly swept Alias away — Obold hauled him back by thrusting out Z'Daria Nix for him to grab. The party pressed toward a green glow spotted by Kormak's birds and ran into a patrol of trolls with lizardfolk handlers. Lois's Fireball and Ofie's Spike Growth shredded the patrol before it could close, Thorin banished a surviving troll and the party finished it on recall, and Obold emerged from his own smoke cloud having missed a jump over the spikes entirely. After looting 250 obsidian trade tokens and a set of gold necklaces — and Obold claiming a troll tusk — the party rested, then moved on the green tower itself. Two harpies guarding the entrance charmed several party members with an offer to remove their pain, claiming Agnus the Maw was inside. Before the song could take hold of everyone, Ofie struck a harpy with Call Lightning and Thorin silenced the rest. Drake riders swept in and tried to carry off three party members; Obold misty-stepped onto the drake holding Lois, kicked its rider free, and crashed it into the ground. Lois fireballed the remaining harpies. The party stood at the tower entrance as the session ended.

Recap

The Scorned Eight interrogated their captured lizardfolk scout, learning that the hag Agnus the Maw dwells at the island's center and that the periodic floods originate from the Witch's Maw — a great hole beside her hut. After weathering the first surge and dispatching a nest of swamp snakes, the party encountered a larger band of lizardfolk standing guard over a sacred shrine. Despite being offered an escort to the hag, Alias signaled Kaneko to open fire. The ensuing brawl was chaotic: Gunther's wild magic briefly turned him into a frog, Obold kissed him back to human form, and Obold then dismembered the last combatant before desecrating the shrine altar with a bloody symbol of Baphomet. A second flood surge swept Kormak and Obold off their feet before Thorin parted the torrent with Control Water and the party pressed on toward the center of the island.

AI Summary

The Third Surge

The Witch's Maw did not care that they were moving. The water pulse came again without warning — a deep percussion from somewhere beneath the island's center, the bog dropping away just before the wall of water arrived.

Most of the party reached higher ground. Alias did not. The surge caught him and dragged him along the swamp floor. Obold was already moving — he planted himself, extended Z'Daria Nix horizontally at arm's length, and held. Alias grabbed the halberd's shaft. The water tore past and receded. Both of them were still standing.

They kept moving.

The Green Glow

Kormak's birds had ranged ahead through the fog on routine patrol when one of them spotted it: a faint green luminescence pulsing somewhere in the mist, directionless at first and then clearly coming from the island's elevated interior. The party adjusted their heading and marched toward it.

What they found first was not the source of the light.

Two trolls loped out of the fog, flanked by lizardfolk handlers armed with barbed-edged blades. The handlers were trying to control the trolls rather than fight alongside them. Whether they had been drawn to the party by sound or scent or the orders of someone watching from above was unclear.

The Patrol Fight

Lois opened with a Fireball that engulfed the cluster of handlers and trolls before they could separate. Ofie followed immediately, dropping Spike Growth across the approach — dense, thorned ground that punished every step the survivors tried to take toward the party. The combination was devastating. Most of the handlers were dead or dying before the melee could begin.

Thorin pointed at the remaining combatants and commanded them to grovel. Several did.

Gunther raged and charged. His wild magic chose that moment to poison him — but the surge turned inward, and the poison fed back into his strikes as bonus damage rather than simply hurting him. He continued forward regardless.

Kormak painted the surviving group with Faerie Fire, lighting them up for everyone.

Obold misty-stepped into the middle of the fight, uncorked his ever-smoking bottle, and let the thick black smoke roll out around him. His intent was to draw the trolls into the darkness where he could fight them on his terms. The trolls did not notice him at all and walked directly past the smoke cloud without changing direction.

Undeterred, Obold attempted to leap over the Spike Growth. He did not clear it. He landed in the middle of the thorns and took extra damage on top of the wounds he'd already accumulated.

A third troll emerged from the bog as the fight ground on. Kaneko dropped arrows from range while Alias moved in and out of the melee, drawing the trolls' attention toward the back line and getting them to redirect at Kaneko instead of whoever they'd been targeting.

Thorin banished one of the trolls mid-fight, removing it cleanly from the battlefield. The party circled the spot where it had been standing and waited. When Thorin released the banishment and the troll snapped back into reality, the Scorned Eight were already surrounding it. The troll did not survive the reunion.

Aftermath

The handlers' barbed blades were stripped and set aside. Looting the bodies turned up 250 obsidian trade tokens and a gold necklace on each of the fallen, each piece worth roughly 25 gold. The trolls yielded less — but Obold found what he was looking for. He wrenched one of the troll's tusks free and kept it.

He then summoned Ramses VIII.

The party found defensible ground and took a long rest.

The Tower

When they resumed their march, the green glow was no longer ambiguous. It resolved from fog into architecture: a tower rising from the bog, its stones suffused with a cold emerald light that pulsed slowly, like breath. This was Agnus the Maw's Galder Tower.

They heard the music before they saw the source.

Two harpies perched in the fog near the tower's base, and their song reached into the party like fingers. Several members felt the pull — a warm loosening, a sense that stopping here would be fine, that whatever the harpies offered might be worth considering.

The harpies spoke through the music. They said they could take away pain. That there was a price, naturally — a favor, unspecified, to be named later. They also confirmed what the party had been told: Agnus the Maw was inside the tower.

The party tried to negotiate. They wanted an audience with Agnis, not an open-ended debt to her sentries. The harpies' song swelled in response, pulling harder, and for a moment it seemed like the entire party might simply agree to whatever terms were offered.

Ofie called down lightning on one of the harpies. The music broke.

Thorin cast Silence across the remaining singers, cutting the song off entirely.

The Drakes

The moment the harpies' charm faltered, riders descended from above. Drake mounts — fast, aggressive, hard to track in the fog — swept low over the party and seized three members, dragging them into the air.

Obold saw Lois lifted off the ground. He misty-stepped directly onto the drake carrying her, appearing astride it in midair. He found the rider, grabbed, and threw the rider clear of the mount. Then he steered the drake into the ground, hard, to bring Lois down safely.

Lois, now back on solid ground, cast Fireball into the remaining harpies and took out most of them in a single burst.

The surviving drakes scattered. Whatever sentries had guarded the tower's approach were gone.

The Scorned Eight stood at the base of Agnus the Maw's green tower.

Log

Notes

Alias almost gets washed away by the water pulse from the island. Obold saves him by extending his halberd for him to grab.

The party continued to march on, kormak's birds saw a green glow in the fog ahead. We proceeded and ran into 2 trolls with lizard handlers and a fight commenced.

Gunther ran up and his wild magic poisoned him but gave him poison damage. Lois cast fireball and damaged a lot of them. Ofie cast thorns on the ground. The aoe ripped apart the enemies with a lot of damage before they even got to the party. Thorin made many of the enemies grovel. Kormak fairy fire'd the group of enemies Obold misty stepped into the fight and opened his ever smoking bottle, trying to bait the beasts into fighting him in darkness. They didnt even notice him and walked right past him. He tried to jump over the spiked growth and ate shit and took extra damage from the spikes. Another troll appeared as the party began fighting with them, Kaneko letting arrows fly over head and Alias weaving in and out stabbing. Alias baited the enemies to the back line and got them to target kaneko instead. We take down most of the enemies, and thorin banished one of the trolls. The party circled where the troll was banished, and once thorin brought it back we destroyed the troll.

The enemies when looted had barbed edged blades, and the trolls had. We find 250 obsidian trade tokens. They each had a necklace that was made of some type of gold worth 25 gold pieces each. Obold breaks off one of the trolls tusks and keeps it as a trophy and summons Ramses VIII.

We took a long rest, and start approaching the green light. We see a green tower glowing in the fog. We hear music and some of us are charmed as we approach and hear the song of two harpies.

The harpies said they could remove some of our pain and we would owe them a favor. We tried to get council with agnis because they said she was in the tower. They almost charmed all of us, but before they could charm us all Ofie used call lightning on one and thorin silenced some of the singing harpies. As we fought, some drakes flew down and tried to pick up 3 of us. Obold misty stepped on one of the riders that was taking lois, kicked the rider off, and tried to crash it to the ground to save Lois. Lois then fireballed the harpies and took out a lot of them.

We defeated the enemies and approached the tower session ended.
