Gunther
Gunther
Gunther is the kind of man who solves problems with his body first — breaking sealed doors, shaking mysterious crates, charging into rooms before anyone has scouted them — and thinks about the consequences somewhere between then and later. He is a half-orc barbarian of wild and unpredictable magic, and his presence in a fight is both devastating and volatile: he rages, poisons enemies around him, falls, and rises again through sheer orcish resilience. But Gunther is not simply a blunt instrument. He carries a haunted past — the fey trial of Lady Thistledawn revealed that he had slain members of the Green Court, and visions of his victims played out before the entire party. He sat with that judgment without running from it. The vision Baphomet showed him — a fawn, fragile and innocent — suggests something gentler lives inside the violence, a self he may not have fully reconciled with who he has been.
Personality
Traits:
- Acts on instinct and physicality; his first response to obstacles is to break them, lift them, or charge through them, whether the obstacle is a sealed chamber door or a chained iron gate.
- Stubborn in a fight — he has been knocked down, thrown aside by goliaths, and downed by magic, but consistently stays in the mix rather than withdrawing.
- Unexpectedly generous in quieter moments: he purchased eight javelins for himself and then paid for Obold's helmet without apparent hesitation, suggesting a loyalty that expresses itself through action.
Ideals:
- Strength in service of those worth protecting — his exile-by-conscience from his violent past, and the way he stood by Grolgath, point to a man who wants his power to mean something better than what it once did.
- Camaraderie over strategy: Gunther fights beside people rather than calculating from a distance, and that closeness defines how he shows he cares.
Bonds:
- The party, particularly Obold — he fought furiously alongside him at the farm battle and has repeatedly placed himself where the danger is greatest to support the group.
- A complicated relationship with his own past and the Green Court, whose members he killed and whose judgment he faced in the fey realm.
Flaws:
- His instinct-first approach creates problems: entering the gorilla room first and getting badly mauled, throwing a critical axe that inadvertently rearmed the fleeing Thavrak — he acts before he thinks.
- The weight of his violent history has not been fully reckoned with; the fey trial forced it into the open, but what he does with that guilt remains unclear.
