Thorin
Thorin
A dwarven War Cleric whose faith is expressed most fluently through violence, Thorin is a steady and dependable presence in the party — measured in diplomacy, precise in combat, and willing to offer mercy when it might yield something useful. He carries himself with the blunt pragmatism of someone who has seen enough loss to take nothing for granted, and that grief has sharpened rather than softened him. His daughter Viola was the driving force behind months of the party's journey, and even after freeing her he was left with a clear enemy still to settle: Grashnak the Skullhunter, who killed his wife and son. In a fight, Thorin is methodical and devastating — firebolts, guiding bolts, poison blade strikes, kidney shots, and headbutts stack into a relentless assault, and his command of powerful spells like Hold Person and Control Water can single-handedly change the course of an encounter. He is also affiliated with his brother Kormak, and the two share a bond that has shown itself quietly throughout the campaign.
Personality
Traits:
- Pragmatic and precise in combat — applies maximum pressure with cleric spells (Hold Person, Control Water, Guiding Bolt) layered on top of melee aggression; consistently contributes killing blows or fight-changing moments.
- Diplomatic when it serves a purpose — willing to offer captured enemies freedom in exchange for information, though he does not always get the final say in whether that offer is honored.
- Steady and reliable under pressure, whether stabilizing the sea in a storm, delivering a killing blow on a swooping dragon, or keeping the party upright with healing and support.
Ideals:
- Family is worth everything — the party's entire arc through Velen was driven by his need to recover his daughter, and he carries the deaths of his wife and son as an unresolved debt.
- Justice is pursued actively, not passively; Grashnak the Skullhunter remains unfinished business that continues to pull him forward.
Bonds:
- His daughter Viola, now free and pursuing her own path in the slave revolt at Arkalka, is the emotional anchor of his story.
- His brother Kormak is a constant companion, and their shared faith in their dwarven traditions grounds both of them.
Flaws:
- His plans for enemies can be overruled by more ruthless party members — he offered the seidr witch her freedom, but Obold executed her anyway, and Thorin seems to accept these outcomes without forcing the issue.
- Was briefly possessed by a ghostly pirate captain on the undead ship, suggesting a vulnerability to spiritual or supernatural influence that the party had to address by force.
