Session Summary

043 08-16-2026

Sailing north, the Scorned Eight closed on a ship flying a general flag of Faerûn with Shag Dominica shark riders swimming beside it. It was unclear whether the riders were escorting the ship or herding it. At 60 yards the ship fired two harpoon ballistas into the party's vessel, with explosions and ropes attached, and the shark riders charged. Thorin cast Water Walk and whipped up a vortex to drag the enemy ship in until a seidr witch dispelled it. Then he parted the sea and dropped the enemy a hundred feet down. Obold and Ramses rushed the ship and descended the falling water to shoot at the enemies below. Kormak wrestled a shark before leaping aboard to demolish a Shag Dominica. Gunther took a nasty shark bite. Kaneko sniped from the crow's nest and Lois floated overhead casting Eldritch Blast. The notes end mid-battle, right after naming Dame Valeska Draeg, Obold's cousin. Her part in the encounter wasn't recorded.

The silver bear cub from Torrain's tower was Kalin, the son Kaneko was accused of murdering. Father and son talked through Kalin's bear form and the silver bear matriarch Kaneko had killed years ago, who turned out to be Kalin's grandmother. The Giant Sea Turtle carried the Scorned Eight back to Gwynneth and gave Ofie the Ancient Turtle's Conch to summon it in dire need. On the shore, the Valentine Family, led by an elderly bearded patriarch with Evelynn Valentine and Cedric at his side, came for Kalin. The family rejected Kaneko's apology and a fight nearly broke out, but Kalin accepted it, which is the only reason the party wasn't wiped out. Kalin will stay with the Valentines until his 18th birthday. The Circle of the First Root welcomed the party back, granted Kaneko Protective Prey in place of Hunter's Mark, and celebrated with them. After sending word to King Ardyn, the party spent eight days travelling back to their ship. Along the way they recovered a lost sheep, healed a gryphon, met ents, killed three owlbears and adopted their cub Winnie the Who, and fed some talking foxes. They sailed north, and on day nine they came across a king's ship escorted by the Shag Dominica.

AI Summary

An Uneasy Escort

Several days north of Gwynneth, the party spotted Shag Dominica riding alongside a ship. They weren't attacking it, but from a distance it was impossible to tell whether they were its allies or herding it somewhere. The ship flew a general flag used across Faerûn, which gave nothing away.

When the party came within 60 yards, the ship answered with two giant ballistas. The bolts slammed into the party's vessel with small explosions, trailing ropes that tethered the two ships together. The Shag Dominica shark riders charged.

Battle on the Water

Gunther held onto the side of the ship and grabbed one of the ballista ropes. Kormak jumped straight overboard. Thorin cast Water Walk and churned up a vortex that pulled the enemy ship toward them, while Obold charged across the water on Ramses. A seidr witch stepped out from below decks and dispelled the vortex.

As the shark riders tore into the party, Thorin parted the sea itself and dropped the enemy a hundred feet down. Obold rode the collapsing wall of water down like an elevator, shooting at the enemies below.

Kormak tried to wrestle a shark while Gunther hacked at the riders. Once the riders were dead, the two of them fled the sharks, but not before Gunther took a nasty bite. Kormak then leapt onto the enemy ship and demolished one of the Shag Dominica. The whole time, Kaneko picked enemies off from the crow's nest and Lois floated overhead raining Eldritch Blast.

The notes end here, on a mention of Dame Valeska Draeg, Obold's cousin. The fight's aftermath, including a survivor and the fate of the captives on board, continues in 044 09-13-2026.
