Their matriarch was a silver bear over 400 years old, the sacred guardian Kaneko killed for money years ago (041 07-17-2026). The family has wanted Kaneko dead ever since. In 035 03-15-2026, sailors linked the Valentines to the Three hags.

In 042 08-02-2026, eight Valentines met the Scorned Eight on the shore of Gwynneth to take Kalin home. They rejected Kaneko's apology and nearly attacked. Only Kalin's acceptance of his father kept the peace. Kalin will stay with them until his 18th birthday.
