Notes

The Circle of the First Root sent Kaneko to recover this missing young bear as the first step in his redemption. The party found the cub asleep beside Torrain at the summit of the Tower of the Western Tide. It approached Kaneko affectionately, prompting Torrain to say, “Blood remembers.” The cub then transformed into a half-elven-looking boy of roughly fourteen or fifteen who bore a striking resemblance to Kaneko.

In 042 08-02-2026, Kaneko introduced him to the party as his son Kalin. This was the infant Kaneko had been accused of killing. Kalin was shaken to learn that his father had killed the silver bear matriarch, his own grandmother. When the Valentine Family came for him on the shore of Gwynneth, they rejected Kaneko's apology, but Kalin accepted it, and that kept the meeting from turning into a fight. He will live with the Valentines until his 18th birthday.
